It wasn’t the result I wanted. Not even close. But before I sulk, Ill start by giving Kamaru Usman the respect he deserves. In my previous article I wrote about how the UFC turns their fighters into these unlikable characters in order to sell fights. That was on full display tonight. We saw the camaraderie between Masvidal and Usman after the fight. We saw them hint at a rematch after Masvidal gets a win or two to get back in this position. Kamaru is a beast and fights to his specialties.
If you don’t like that? Then watch something else. I hated watching this fight because it was boring, but if you appreciate smart technical fighting, then you really enjoyed that fight. Usman used his level changes and clinch game to his advantage which me and every other Masvidal stan knew would happen no matter how much we wish it didn’t. At the end of the night two very talented fighters collected a fat check and the better fighter one. What happens next? Well now Usman probably waits for Burns or maybe even a Covington rematch.
Either way for all the haters, yes i’m very sad. This was my biggest sporting even in a very long time. Now i’m sad. Masvidals gotta get back on that horse and work his way back for a title shot. There were certain parts of the fight where it felt like Masvidal had a chance but Usman was just too quick to get back into that clinch and just rack up points with those elbows and annoying ass fucking toe slams.
Anyways, I still fucking love Jorge Masvidal, the Baddest Motherfucker in the game who took a championship fight with 6 days notice. Baptize one mother fucker and get another shot at the title king.
